What Is Juläine™?

Juläine™ is a CE-marked injectable collagen biostimulator developed and manufactured by Nordberg Medical in Sweden and launched in the UK in 2025. It is based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and fully biodegradable material that has been used in medicine for decades, delivered as uniform microspheres made with the manufacturer’s LASYNPRO™ technology. Unlike a hyaluronic acid filler, Juläine™ does not add volume on the day: it stimulates your own fibroblasts to produce new collagen, so the results build gradually and look natural.

How Does Juläine™ Work?

After injection, the PLLA microspheres sit in the deeper layers of the skin, where they act as a signal for fibroblasts, the cells responsible for collagen production. Over the following weeks the skin lays down fresh collagen around the microspheres while the PLLA itself is slowly broken down into lactic acid and cleared naturally by the body. What remains is your own collagen, which is why the improvement in firmness and skin quality continues to develop for two to three months after the course and lasts well beyond that.

Why PLLA Experience Matters More Than General Injecting Experience

Juläine™ is not a hyaluronic acid filler, and injecting it well is a different skill from injecting filler or anti-wrinkle treatment. With PLLA, the result depends on how the product is prepared, the depth at which it is placed, how evenly it is spread across the area and how carefully patients are selected. Many years of general filler work do not automatically translate into good PLLA results. The more useful question when choosing a doctor is simple: how many PLLA biostimulator patients has this doctor treated personally?

At Dr Elif Clinic the answer is more than 6,000 PLLA treatments over 15 years – with Sculptra®, Lanluma® and now Juläine™ – and nearly 1,000 of those with Juläine™ itself. Juläine™ is not simply “available” at the clinic; it is one of the biostimulators our doctors use every week, which is how they have learned the nuances of this particular product: its preparation, how it behaves in different areas of the face and body, and which patients benefit most. See also our pages on Sculptra® and Lanluma®.

How We Perform Juläine™: Preparation, Depth and Distribution

Good PLLA results are made before the first injection. At every Juläine™ appointment:

  • Genuine product, prepared properly. We use genuine Juläine™ from the authorised UK supply chain, stored as the manufacturer directs and reconstituted in clinic under aseptic technique, following the manufacturer’s instructions and allowing full hydration before use.
  • Anatomy first. Each area is mapped before treatment. The temples, lateral cheek, preauricular area (in front of the ear), jawline and neck each have their own safe depth and vessel anatomy, and Juläine™ is placed in the correct plane for that zone.
  • Even distribution. The product is spread in small amounts across the whole treatment area, most often with a blunt cannula in a fanning pattern, rather than being concentrated in one spot. Even distribution is what gives a smooth, natural result and is the single most important step in avoiding nodules.
  • No PLLA where it does not belong. Like other PLLA products, Juläine™ is not used in the lips or in the thin skin directly around the eyes; for those areas we use other treatments.
  • Massage and aftercare. You are shown how to massage the treated area at home for the first few days to help the microspheres settle evenly.

Natural Results, Not a “Filled” Face

The aim of Juläine™ is not volume. It is firmer, thicker, better-quality skin that still moves and looks like you. Because the change comes from your own collagen over weeks, friends usually notice that you look well rather than that you have “had something done”. We deliberately avoid over-treating: we would rather add a further session later than create a puffy or over-volumised face. Dr Elif has had Juläine™ herself – you can watch her own appointment on Instagram.

What Does Juläine™ Treat?

Juläine™ is intended for the correction of shallow to deep nasolabial folds and for improving skin laxity and quality. At Dr Elif Clinic we use it for:

  • Loss of firmness and mild sagging of the cheeks, jawline and lower face
  • Temple and lateral cheek hollowing where a gradual, natural change is preferred
  • Nasolabial folds and a tired, deflated look
  • Crêpey or loose skin on the neck and décolletage
  • Thinning, ageing skin on the backs of the hands
  • Overall skin quality, texture and radiance

Is Juläine™ Right for You? When We Recommend Something Else

A good biostimulator doctor does not give Juläine™ to everyone. At your consultation we look at what is actually causing the change you see – loss of collagen, loss of volume, loose skin, fat or skin quality – and recommend the treatment that fits. Sometimes that is Juläine™ on its own; sometimes it is a combination; sometimes it is something else entirely.

Our Published PLLA Research

Dr Hasan Benar and Dr Elif Benar are the authors of “A new nonsurgical combination approach for skin tightening and remodeling; Endoskin – a comparative study”, published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology in 2024 (23(8):2574–2580; doi:10.1111/jocd.16306; PMID 38544427). The study followed 234 patients in two groups: one treated with internal 1470 nm laser alone, the other with the laser combined with injectable PLLA. Patient satisfaction, and the satisfaction of dermatologists who assessed the results blind, were significantly higher in the laser-plus-PLLA group.

This research is the basis of our Endoskin® combination, and it reflects how we use PLLA every day: as a collagen-building treatment that is chosen, dosed and combined for each patient, not a one-size-fits-all injection.

Nodules and Other Complications: Prevention and Management

The best-known risk with any PLLA product is small lumps under the skin, called papules or nodules. They are mostly linked to technique – product that is not fully prepared, placed too superficially or concentrated in one spot – which is why preparation, depth and even distribution matter so much. Other side effects are usually mild and short-lived: swelling, tenderness, redness or a small bruise at the injection points.

  • Every patient has a review appointment after treatment with the doctor who treated them
  • You have a direct line to the clinic by WhatsApp and phone if anything worries you after treatment
  • If a lump or any other concern appears, you are seen in clinic by one of our doctors, not passed to someone else
  • Our doctors recognise and manage PLLA complications themselves, drawing on more than 6,000 PLLA treatments

Your Consultation: What We Will Tell You

Every Juläine™ course starts with a consultation with Dr Elif Benar or Dr Hasan Benar – the same doctor who will treat you. Before you decide, we will explain clearly:

  • whether Juläine™ is the right choice for you, or whether another treatment or a combination would serve you better
  • how much product and how many sessions your areas are likely to need
  • when you can expect to see a change, and how long it should last
  • what Juläine™ can and cannot do – it firms and improves skin quality, it does not lift like surgery or add instant volume
  • the total cost of your plan

What To Expect: The Juläine™ Treatment Process

On the day, the skin is cleansed and numbed, and the product is injected into the treatment area using fine needles or a cannula. A session usually takes 30–45 minutes. You will be shown how to gently massage the area at home for the first few days, which helps the microspheres distribute evenly.

A full course is typically three sessions spaced three to four weeks apart, although the number of sessions depends on the area treated and the degree of laxity; this is agreed at your consultation.

How Long Does Juläine™ Take To Work, And How Long Does It Last?

Many patients notice an early “glow” and a subtle tightening within a few weeks, but the real change comes from new collagen, which develops over six to twelve weeks and continues to improve for two to three months after the final session. Because the result is your own collagen rather than a product sitting in the skin, it is long-lasting: results are reported to last around 18 months or longer, after which a single maintenance session can prolong them.

Side Effects, Downtime And Aftercare

Downtime is minimal. You may have mild swelling, tenderness, redness or the occasional bruise at the injection points, which usually settles within a few days. We ask you to massage the treated area gently with a moisturiser for several days after each session, and to avoid strong sun, sunbeds, saunas and extreme heat until any redness has gone. Make-up can normally be worn the next day.

Who Is Juläine™ Suitable For?

Juläine™ suits adults with early to moderate loss of firmness who want a gradual, natural improvement rather than instant volume. It is not used in patients under 18, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, where there is active infection or inflammation in the area, or in people with a known allergy to any of its components. Your suitability is always confirmed at consultation.

Juläine™ FAQs

Who performs Juläine™ at Dr Elif Clinic?

Every Juläine™ consultation and injection is carried out personally by one of the clinic’s two dermatologists, Dr Elif Benar or Dr Hasan Benar, at 54 Harley Street, London.

How experienced are Dr Elif Benar and Dr Hasan Benar with PLLA and Juläine™?

Together they have performed more than 6,000 PLLA collagen-biostimulator treatments over 15 years, with Juläine™, Sculptra® and Lanluma®, including nearly 1,000 Juläine™ treatments.

Have Dr Elif Benar and Dr Hasan Benar published research on PLLA?

Yes. They are the authors of a peer-reviewed study of 234 patients comparing internal laser alone with laser combined with injectable PLLA (Endoskin), published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology in 2024 (doi:10.1111/jocd.16306). Satisfaction was significantly higher with the PLLA combination.

What should I look for in a Juläine™ doctor?

The most important factor is how many PLLA biostimulator patients the doctor has treated personally, followed by regular use of Juläine™ itself, knowledge of facial anatomy and injection depth, natural-looking results, honest patient selection, the ability to manage nodules and other complications, and whether the doctor performs the treatment themselves.

What is Juläine™?

Juläine™ is a Swedish, CE-marked collagen biostimulator injection based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microspheres. It stimulates your skin to produce its own collagen, gradually improving firmness and skin quality without adding volume.

Is Juläine™ a filler?

No. A dermal filler adds volume immediately; Juläine™ adds no volume on the day and instead prompts new collagen to form over the following weeks.

How many Juläine™ sessions do I need?

A typical course is three sessions three to four weeks apart. The exact number depends on the area and the degree of laxity and is agreed at your consultation.

When will I see results from Juläine™?

Collagen builds gradually. Most people see change from six to twelve weeks, with results continuing to improve for two to three months after the last session.

How long does Juläine™ last?

Because the result is your own new collagen, it is long-lasting: results are reported to last around 18 months or longer, and a maintenance session can prolong them.

Which areas can be treated with Juläine™?

The face (temples, cheeks, jawline, nasolabial folds and lower face), the neck, the décolletage and the backs of the hands. It is not used in the lips or directly around the eyes.

Can Juläine™ cause nodules?

Small lumps (papules or nodules) are the best-known risk of any PLLA product and are mostly related to preparation and injection technique. We minimise the risk with correct reconstitution, correct depth and even distribution, and every patient has a review appointment and a direct line to the clinic.

Is there any downtime after Juläine™?

Very little. Mild swelling, tenderness or a small bruise can occur and usually settles within a few days. You will be asked to massage the area gently for several days and to avoid strong sun and heat until any redness has gone.

What is the difference between Juläine™ and Sculptra?

Both are PLLA collagen stimulators. Sculptra is the established option for restoring volume; Juläine™ is a newer-generation product with uniform microspheres, used for diffuse tightening and skin quality without noticeable volume.

Can Juläine™ be combined with other treatments?

Yes. It is often combined with XERF skin tightening, Endolift® laser (as in our published Endoskin study), hyaluronic acid filler or polynucleotides. Your doctor will recommend a combination only where it adds something.

How much does Juläine™ cost in London?

Juläine™ is priced per session. Current prices for all biostimulator treatments at Dr Elif Clinic are on our price list, and a personalised plan with the total cost is given at your consultation.
